Emily Øverland she/her
Hi, I’m emily!
I am a licensed professional counselor and a registered yoga teacher. I have been drawn to healing and have known I wanted to be a therapist since I was 17. For me it has been a lifestyle, an immersion, a way of being.
I invite my clients to be authentic and vulnerable in the safety of the therapeutic alliance; allowing clients to be themselves, sometimes for the first time in their lives. I hold their experiences with presence and care, encouraging growth to move past old behavioral patterns that no longer serve and teaching how to validate the old patterns that developed as a survival mechanism.
My work focuses on guiding clients through the pains of learning how to thrive...especially those who are fresh out of survival mode. Good change is still change and it takes time for the body and mind to accept it. I incorporate lots of humor because life is too short to be so serious, healing isn't all shadow work, it's inviting the light in as well. We all deserve to enjoy this little life.
I am influenced by my yoga practice of 20 years and 13 years of cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy practice. I have worked in career centers, universities, community mental health centers, no and low-income health clinics, VAs, and a group practice. I hold my Masters of Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas and was a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology before leaving to pursue this dream.
Through my own healing, I have developed a life that is full of comfort, ease and joy! I enjoy exploring new places and foods with my loved ones and spending time with my rescue dog, Hattie. I love wandering and hearing people's stories. I teach yoga several times a week and love connecting with my community!
My Approach
You deserve to create the life you want and to live your life to it’s fullest, but first we must understand the cause.

In our work together, we will explore the roots of current behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that are hindering you from thrival mode.
growth
Healing is a bottom up approach; I focus on the somatic experience and behavioral patterns to heal the thought patterns.
